We're now Share on Ovi!

We’re baaack!
 
You may have been wondering what in the world we’ve been up to during the last six months since Twango was acquired by Nokia. Frankly, so have we!  Our heads are still spinning from all the changes.  Going from our little basement startup to being a part of a large global company like Nokia has been a real adventure. We’ve grown the team, made some big changes to the service and made a lot of new friends along the way.
 
First, we are now part of Nokia’s new service brand, “Ovi”.  As of Today, the Twango brand will be a fond memory.  We are now Share on Ovi.  As you can see from looking at the site, we’ve moved to a new look and feel that you will see among all the Ovi services as they roll out.  We’ve also streamlined the user interface with simpler navigation, better search options, new ways to explore and an improved help system.
 
Under the covers, we’ve made huge improvements to the service infrastructure, which will allow us to scale to millions of users.  You may not notice these improvements right away, but you’ll experience better performance that doesn’t degrade as more and more people start using the system.
 
And finally, we’ve also spent a lot of time building software that allows Nokia devices to connect to the service.  “Share Online” is a cool application for your Nokia mobile device that allows you to capture photos and videos and upload them to the service directly!  It also allows you to view feeds of media from your contacts and people that are sharing from you, so you can keep in touch with your friends better than ever.  We’ll provide a download link for this software on the Share homepage in the next few days.
 
What you’re seeing today is just a first step on the way to the bold Internet services vision that we at Nokia all share.  More services are on the way, and we will continue to improve the Share service with more great features and better integration with other Nokia services and devices.  We’d love to hear what you think.

Are there any limits on usage? My pro Flickr account is set to expire in a few days and I was wondering how you guys compare, what can/can't I do compare to them.

Yes, PLEASE PLEASE add a Pro feature or whatever you need to do to enable at least triple the amount of upload or make upload limits unlimited. I just had a series of problems with flickr groups and would love to completely switch to twango but need more space. And of course I want all of my media from events with friends in one place! Thanks.

i ve installed the latest share online 3 on my n82 but it only list flickr and vox even after i ve press update services..is it because its not available in malaysia yet? Thanks

First of all great stuff! Opened an account.. I am even thinking of removing Shozu from my N95 8GB.

Some requests:
Automatic posts to twitter and facebook, etc
Make an embeddeble player for wordpress hosted blogs(the html code is a nice first step)

Further it is time to rebrand the Twango teamblog aswell ;-)

Same problem with my N82 in Mexico. Installed Share Online 3.0 and the OVI icon doesn´t appear even after updating services.

Hey guys, I find the "channel" concept strange and confusing :-) Why is it when i'm looking at one of my videos I have no embedding tools? And it tells me to add it to a public channel, which I usually do by default. I then have to navigate out to "my channels", and find the same bit of media to then find the embedding tools.

IMHO I would take a leaf out of flickr's book, they weren't the first photo sharing service, but they were the first service to assume you wanted to share everything by default, and to not share it was the exception.

Lets face it people are lazy (hence all the vcr's with flashing 12:00), in which case whatever the default that will be what 99% of people choose :-) I mean, your called "ovi.share" not "ovi.private" right?

Oh, thanks for taking the limits off, totally rocks to have a couple of gigs of storage.

Also, I second the request that you make it easy for me to post my media to other places. When I upload photos i want it to go to ovi, facebook, flickr, pownce, etc and what ever else social network I become a part of in the future.

I've been a fan of Twango since I first opened an account over a year back. Now that Nokia is behind this, I'm anxious to see what other improvements are in store. Off the top of my head, this is what I'd like to see:
1. Photo quality improvement in the standard large format. Flickr displays a much sharper image (sorry!)
2. Changing the "large" size to 1024x768. There's too much of a gap between the current large and original.
3. More prominent use of tags for search - this should be available at the channel level; shouldn't need to open a photo first containing a tag you want to search on
4. An option to "re-send invite" for participants. I know this can be done via email but adding an extra command next to each participant name would be very convenient - I have people lose their invite now and then.

That's it really. With Flickr's pending video option coming out this year, competition in this space is going to heat up. If you guys can address these issues above (plus a few more that others have pointed out), I think this site stands a very good chance at coming out a winner this year.

wow, almost 90 percent of the problems here i don't have. like the last one from larry. videos play just fine.

my question. how can i geo tag photos onto a google map. this is the one thing thats stopping me from ending my need for flickr.

flickr gives you a geotag and kml feed. is this possible with ovi?
